ABOUT THE COUPLE
Katherine and Dirk were set up on a blind date by mutual friends Brad Nauman and Maggi Wettstein. Their first date was hiking at Forest Park Nature Center, a local hiking spot in Peoria, Illinois. They had dinner afterwards, and the next 3 dates were basically repeats of the excellent first date, just at different hiking locations. They hit it off and the rest is history!

Anyone who knows Katherine knows of her serious obsession with Abraham Lincoln. Dirk and Katherine planned a trip to Washington, D.C. for Labor Day 2016. Dirk decided this was a perfect time to propose at the Lincoln Memorial to complement Katherine's obsession! Katherine, however, had different plans and moved to D.C. to work for a year. Dirk decided to stick with his original plan, and he flew out for Labor Day weekend and proposed to Katherine on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. He even proposed in a speech that was inspired by the Gettysburg Address. Katherine was extremely surprised and (obviously) said "yes!" Their jubilation was captured by a local D.C. photographer that Dirk had hired in advance.
